About InterHarmony in Acqui Terme
Drawn to Acqui Terme because of its rich history, lively location, and cultural predilection, InterHarmony is excited to announce the 5th Anniversary in Acqui Terme, Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, Italy. Pianos fill every corner and the sounds can be heard from the concert hall in Chiesa dell'Addolorata, Chiesa Santo Spirito, the Paleologi Castle, the concert hall in Hotel La Meridiana, and from the town's schools. The Piedmont region is famed for its sumptuous, French-inspired, Italian cuisine and award-wining red wine vinyards. Participants will stay in Hotel Meridiana, Hotel Ariston, and Hotel Rondó. Exciting festival excursions will be to the Italian Riviera, exploring towns from Savona to Finale Ligure, and Turin.
The Liguri Statilelli settled in Acqui Terme in the proto-historic age, and founded the centre of Carystum, which was later conquered and destroyed in the 173 B.C. by the Roman army, lead by Marco Popilio Lenate. The conquest led to a progressive Romanization of the territory and its inhabitants and to the birth of Acquae Statiellae, in the area of the thermal springs. The natural hotsprings of Acqui Terme caused it to be a flourishing spa town between the triangle formed by Turin, and Genova. Senaca, Strabo, Tacitus, and Pliny wrote of Acqui Terme as “founded among waters”.
Historical highlights include the consecration of the Duomo (Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta) in 1067 by Bishop Saint Guido, participation in the crusades, and the visit of Napoleon in 1796. Ancient Roman ruins, such as the aqueducts, the amphitheater, baths, and artisan center recently unearthed, are part of Acqui Terme's history, as well as monuments like the Duomo (1067), the Paleologi Castle (1056) and Archeology Museum, Basilica di San Pietro (Chiesa dell'Addolorata) (1100’s), Chiesa di San Francisco (1600), and the Piazza della Bollente.
Welcome to Acqui Terme
Welcome from Mayor Lorenzo Lucchini and Counciller of Tourism Lorenza Oselin
As of Mayor of Acqui Terme, and jointly with the Councillor for Tourism, I’m proud and honoured to welcome the 5th Anniversary of InterHarmony International Music Festival in town from the 5th to the 31st of July. Situated in the heart of northern Italy’s Piedmont in the triangle of Milan – Genoa and Turin Acqui Terme overlooks farming lands of outstanding beauty rich in castles and vineyards, it is a bustling spa town established as an important thermal centre in Roman times, surrounded by breath-taking vineyards and landscapes that were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. The impressive ruins of the Roman Aqueduct still stand next to the Bormida River, a reminder of how water has always been the most important element in Acqui Terme, which offers its visitors an enviable blend of spas, culture, and culinary excellence. As culture obviously embrace music, therefore we can boast the evidence that classical music passed here with the outstanding presence of M° Giacomo Puccini who came to Acqui Terme to take the waters and have mud treatments in 1904.
We are looking forward to host this prestigious classical music festival that will enliven the heart of the town and bring students and music lovers from all over the world. We wish the festival a great success and all the participants and organizers a pleasant stay in Acqui Terme.
