Tina James, oboe
Tina James has been an oboe and English horn freelancer for over thirty years, having landed her first gig as a soloist in a pilot film score at the age of sixteen. She holds music performance degrees from the University of Illinois and Louisiana State University and held faculty positions at Weber State University and St. Cloud State University prior to her current posting at the Univeristy of Wisconsin-River Falls. Previous performance engagements have included the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, VocalEssence, Utah Symphony Orchestra, Ballet West, Colors of the Baroque, Sinfonia da Camera, and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. Tina has recorded with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, The Minnesota Opera and has played for several feature film scores. Recent performances in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area include Mannheim Steamroller, Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker and Broadway Across America touring productions such as Wicked, Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady. She enjoys managing and performing in two chamber ensembles, Socii in Fide and The MN Trio. Her home studio is comprised of forty of the most talented oboe and piano students in the metro area and her oboe students are some of the best reed makers around. Her virtual reed making sessions have been called her new “super-power” by her current students. Tina studied under Blaine Edlefsen, Mark Ostoich, Earnie Harrison, John Mack and Bob Stephenson.
