Qing Jiang, piano
Praised by the New York Times as a “fiery musician” whose playing is “vigorous and passionate,” Chinese-born pianist Qing Jiang enjoys a diverse career in solo, chamber, and contemporary music. She has appeared in Alice Tully Hall, Weill Hall, Jordan Hall, as well as the UK’s Snape Maltings Hall, and China’s Shenzhen Poly Theater. As a concerto soloist, Jiang performed under legendary conductor and composer Oliver Knussen with the Britten-Pears Orchestra in England, as well as with the Lanzhou Symphony under revered Chinese conductor Zushan Bian. Highlights of the upcoming season include performances with the Juilliard Quartet and arx duo, artist residencies at Capital Normal University in Beijing, and concerto debut with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra.
Passionate about chamber music, Jiang has collaborated with Itzhak Perlman, David Shifrin, Susan Narucki, Gilbert Kalish and Joel Krosnick, as well as the Shanghai, Jasper, Left Bank and Parker string quartets. Currently a faculty member of the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Jiang previously maintained longstanding relationships with the Yellow Barn festival and the Britten-Pears Festival where she performed in numerous chamber, solo, and contemporary settings. Other festival appearances include Music@Menlo, Ravinia, Interlochen, Garth Newel Music Center, the Perlman Music Program, and the Aspen festival. In 2016, Jiang performed on a six-city tour in China with esteemed chamber musicians Roger Tapping, Natasha Brofsky, and Laurie Smukler. Equally experienced with contemporary music, Jiang has worked with composers Brett Dean, Jennifer Higdon, Jörg Widmann, and Daniel Temkin to prepare performances of their works, and recently premiered works by Zhou Tian, Lei Liang, and Colin Mathews.
Born in Zhenjiang, China, Jiang began studying piano at age three with her mother. As the first Chinese recipient of Jack Kent Cooke Arts Scholarship, she holds degrees from Arizona State University, Juilliard, and New England Conservatory. Previously taught at New England Conservatory, the NEC Preparatory School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Yellow Barn Young Artist Program, Jiang currently is an Assistant Professor of Music at Bucknell University, and Piano Faculty at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School and Festival in Maine.
