Dr. Javier Arias, cello
Javier Arias has a bachelor's degree from the Juilliard School, a Masters degree of Arts in Chamber Music from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a PhD in Interpretation with Honors from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Dr. Arias was the founder of the Quartet Amernet with which he won the First Prize in the 5th International Quartet Competition in Banff, Canada, Gold Medal and Special Prize Asahi at the Tokyo International Music Competition, Grand Prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and First Prize in the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition.
Javier Arias has been a soloist with various musical groups and has performed in concerts throughout the United States, Latin America, Canada, Europe and Asia. He has been a professor of cello and chamber music at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory, Northern Kentucky University, and Florida International University. He is currently Professor of Cello and Chamber Music at the Universidad EAFIT, in Medellín, Colombia. Dr. Arias is a guest professor at the Escuela de Bellas Artes of the Universidad Panamericana, as well as other prestigious institutions where he presents courses, masterclasses, talks and workshops on the cello and chamber music technique and its repertoire.
