    Dr. Matthew Reynolds, French horn

    Dr. Matthew Reynolds is Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Oklahoma, where he teaches applied horn, studio class, and brass-related coursework, and serves as a graduate advisor in the School of Music. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Horn Performance from the University of Southern California, where he studied with Kristy Morrell and completed additional training in music teaching and learning, brass pedagogy, and conducting. Dr. Reynolds holds a Master of Music degree from Wichita State University, where he studied with Nicholas Smith, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Baylor University, where he studied with Jeffrey Powers.

    A highly engaged educator and mentor, Dr. Reynolds is deeply committed to student development through individualized instruction, ensemble coaching, and performance-based learning. He regularly presents masterclasses and leads outreach initiatives at universities, high schools, and community venues throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding region. At the University of Oklahoma, he plays a significant leadership role in recruitment and community engagement efforts, including directing the Boomer Brass Bash, and serves in key service capacities as Chair of the Young Artist Competition and Co-Chair of the Concerto Competition, in addition to serving on departmental committees.

    An accomplished performer, Dr. Reynolds serves as Fourth Horn of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and performs regularly with the Norman Philharmonic and other regional orchestras. He also plays in the OU Faculty Brass Quintet and maintains an active career as a soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist. His research and pedagogical interests center on brass embouchure health, oral health in music performance, and sustainable performance practices that support long-term artistic excellence.
