    Dr. Jennifer Gosack Darwell Biography

    Chicago flutist Jennifer Gosack Darwell D.M.A. has been praised for her vibrant tone, polished technique, and outstanding musicality across a broad range of styles. Jennifer is Artist Teacher of Flute and Instructor of Record for Woodwind Chamber Music at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 2016. Jennifer also received her Master’s (2010) and Artist Diploma (2011) degrees from CCM. In 2008, she graduated from the DePaul University School of Music in Chicago, where she studied with Mary Stolper. Jennifer is currently Principal Flutist of the Southwest Symphony Orchestra and was a featured soloist for the orchestra’s November 2020 and October 2022 performances. She is also Adjunct Professor of Flute at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL, Adjunct Professor of Flute at South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois, and former Instructor of Flute Performance at the American Music Institute in Clarendon Hills, IL. From 2012-2014, Jennifer was Adjunct Professor Flute at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She currently offers quality flute instruction to more than forty dedicated students of all ages throughout the Chicagoland area. In recent years, Dr. Darwell's students have achieved top placement in their curricular ensembles, as well as the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Symphony of DuPage, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Honor Band of America, various Illinois district and state ensembles, and the Merit School of Music. They have earned distinguished awards in the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition, Society of American Musicians, the Floot Fire Virtual Soloist Competition, the Granquist Music Competition, the Chicago Flute Club Competition, the Festival of Flutes Competition, the Wisconsin Flute Club Competition, the SSC Young Musicians’ Competition, and the Southwest Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Current and former students have achieved placement in prestigious flute studios such as the Eastman School of Music, the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, the DePaul University School of Music, the Carnegie Mellon School of Music, the Northern Illinois University School of Music, Illinois State University, Purdue University, the University of Illinois, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Butler University, Roosevelt University, and Valparaiso University. In 2007, Jennifer traveled to Casperia, Italy, where she studied with Grammy Award- winning flutist, Rhonda Larson. She has also performed in masterclasses with William Bennett, Bonita Boyd, Leone Buyse, Tadeu Coelho, James and Jeanne Galway, Bradley Garner, Marianne Gedigian, Walfrid Kujala, Judith Mendenhall, Susan Milan, Karen Moratz, Amy Porter, George Pope, Gary Schocker, Jim Walker, and Trevor Wye. Jennifer has performed with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, the CCM Philharmoina Orchestra, the CCM Chamber Winds, and the Queen City Chamber Opera, and is also a member of the Volaré Ensemble and Duo Stiletto. She was featured soloist with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra and Joliet Symphony Orchestra in 2012 and 2018 and received prizes in the South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition and the Raleigh Area Flute Association Young Artist Competition. Following in the footsteps of her undergraduate professor, Mary Stolper, Jennifer recently became a member of the Musicians Club of Women, a historic Chicago-based organization that supports, promotes, and engages women in classical music. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, attending country music concerts, and spending time with her husband Chris, her daughter Natalie Rose, her son Matthew Ryan, and her dog Gucci. Jennifer is dedicated to a life of sharing her talent and passion for classical music with others.
