Jan Halloran, clarinet
Praised for her "soulful intensity," Jan Halloran maintains a distinguished career as one of New England's most versatile clarinetists and educators. She is Principal Clarinetist of Boston Lyric Opera and Odyssey Opera, and a member of the Grammy Award-winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP). Her performance credits include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet, and Boston Landmarks Orchestra.
A dedicated chamber musician, Ms. Halloran is a member of the Boston Conservatory faculty woodwind quintet and has performed with the Walden Chamber Players, Collage New Music, and the Radius Ensemble. Her recordings appear on the BMOP Sound, Capstone, Telergy, and Navona labels.
Ms. Halloran serves on the faculties of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Dartmouth College. A passionate mentor with decades of experience, she combines a highly organized, resource-rich approach with a teaching style that is engaging and deeply supportive of musicians at every level. Originally from Pennsylvania, she earned her BM from the Eastman School of Music and her MM from Boston University. Her primary teachers include Thomas Thompson, Michael Webster, and Thomas Martin.
