    Alice Chenyang Xu, piano

    Hailed by The Boston Musical Intelligencer as "incisive and with innate musicality," pianist Alice Chenyang Xu brings a thoughtful and evocative approach to her performances. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, and China, with highlights including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Chicago Symphony Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, Leipzig's Hochschule Musik Hall, and Chiesa dell'Addolorata in Piedmont.

    Xu is a frequent guest at international festivals including Yellow Barn, Annapolis Chamber Music Festival, Internationale Mendelssohn-Akademie, and Art of Piano. She has collaborated with the Borromeo String Quartet, members of the Cleveland and Doric String Quartets, violinist Anthony Marwood, soprano Lucy Shelton, and baritone William Sharp. She has also worked closely with composers George Crumb, Jorg Widmann, Shulamit Ran, Helen Grime, and Mehmet Ali Sanlikol. She has received the NEC Honors Ensemble Program Award, the Borromeo Guest Artist Award, and top prizes at the Southern Missouri and SEILER International Piano Competitions in Germany. Xu is a member of the artist roster for the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston.

    A dedicated educator since 2006, Xu's students' awards include top prizes at the Chicago International Music Competition, the Music Institute of Chicago Student Competition, and the Southwest Regional Piano Competition in China. Xu is currently on the piano faculty at Tufts University and the New England Conservatory Pre-College Program. She holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, Roosevelt University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from New England Conservatory, where she received the Dorothy H. Congleton Memorial Presidential Scholarship. Her principal teachers include Seymour Lipkin, Meng-Chieh Liu, Winston Choi, Wha-Kyung Byun, and Vivian Weilerstein, with additional studies under Hung-Kuan Chen, Gary Graffman, and Russell Sherman.
