Yun-Ling Hsu, piano
As an internationally acclaimed artist, Yun-Ling Hsu is a versatile pianist with extensive experience in performing solo, chamber music, and collaborative piano, who is known for her exceptional technique and a wide range of repertoire. She has shared the stage with renowned musicians and professors, including Julian Bliss (British clarinetist), Oleh Krysa (Ukrainian-U.S. violinist), Øystein Baadsvik (Norwegian tubist), Carsten Svanberg (Danish trombonist), Michel Debost (French-U.S. flutist), Oscar Gustavo Gieco, (Argentinian clarinetist), and several principal players from the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony, among many others.
In addition to her performance career, Dr. Hsu is also highly regarded for her contributions to music education and research, promoting and premiering new works in concerts, teaching masterclasses, adjudicating competitions, presenting papers, and speaking at esteemed educational institutions and conferences around the Americas, Europe, and Asia, including the Danish National Academy of Music, and Odeon Music Hall (Denmark), Vianden Music Festival (Luxembourg), InterHarmony Music Festival (Italy), Sala Ignacio Cervantes concert hall in Havana (Cuba), piano competitions and festivals in Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Ürümqi (China), the U.S. teachers’ conferences such as National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, College Music Society, MTNA, NFMC, NACWPI, as well as numerous universities and music schools across the U.S.
With dual citizenship in the US and Taiwan, Dr. Yun-Ling Hsu (許韻玲) holds a diploma, a B.M., a M.M., and a Doctoral Musical Arts degree in piano performance. She was the last pupil of the legendary American pianist Earl Wild and studied under André Laplante at Ohio State University’s School of Music. Her doctoral dissertation on Earl Wild’s solo piano transcriptions of Gershwin songs was highly praised by Wild himself. Through her academic career, Dr. Hsu held several graduate teaching assistantships and fellowships and was even nominated for an Excellence in Teaching award. She has also had the opportunity to learn from renowned pianists such as Malcolm Bilson, Robert Levin, and Veronica Jochum.
As a dedicated educator and respected leader in her field, Dr. Hsu has taught piano at universities such as University of Central Florida, Rollins College, and Seminole State College, Ohio State University, where she has imparted her knowledge and skills to both graduate and undergraduate piano majors and minors for the past 30 years. Currently, she serves as the President of the USA-Florida chapter of the World Piano Teachers Association-WPTA and maintains a private studio where she works with a select group of students. She is also the founder and director of the Central Florida Piano Camp for pre-college pianists and musicians every summer in Orlando, Florida, which she started in 2013. Her teaching and research focus on injury prevention, health, and overall well- being for pianists. Dr. Hsu has a proud history of molding successful students, with many of her former pupils going on to receive prestigious awards and scholarships, such as the Fulbright Scholarship, the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, and a multitude of other international music competitions, as well as the MTNA & NFMC national and Florida state competitions. Many of her former students have become accomplished pianists, music educators, and music directors across the U.S.
