Kamilla Mammedova, piano
Harris Goldsmith from New York Concert Review wrote: "Ms. Kamilla Mammedova, excellent young pianist, played her debut recital in New York's major concert hall, Carnegie Hall, with an assured, dignified traversal; she quickly established her credentials by playing with firm no-nonsense rhythms and a solid, singing "down-to-the-bottom-of-the-keys" tone. She brought solidity, lucidity and architectural overview to Rachmaninoff's Variations on a Theme of Corelli. She interspersed that objective clarity of purpose with moments of lovingly nuanced passing details, and her excellent rendition also made the most of the work's similarity to the same composer's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Ms. Mammedova's performances went to the heart of the matter; lovely playing, singing tone."
Kamilla Mammedova was born in Azerbaijan and began her musical training at the age of five. Since pursuing a career in piano performance, she has received many awards and scholarships including the I. Kahn Piano Award, the R. Hanson Scholarship, Artists International Alumni Award, and the Evelyn Bonar Storrs Scholarship from the Musical Club of Hartford. Mammedova has participated in many piano festivals, competitions, master classes and lectures with world renowned musicians, as well as appearing in solo and chamber ensemble recitals in Azerbaijan, Spain, Italy, Russia, and the United States.
From 2001–04 in her native Azerbaijan, she participated in many solo recitals including the Concert with Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra under the patronage of the Greek, Norwegian embassies in Azerbaijan performing Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 2, George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and numerous solo performances. Mammedova participated in the Cultural Olympic Concert dedicated to the Olympic Games in Greece in 2004 under the patronage of the Firt Lady of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and Greece. She made her solo debut recital at Carnegie Hall in 2006. After that magnificent and sold out performance she received an Outstanding Award and got an invitation from organizers of that concert for a return performance at the Alumni Recital in Carnegie Hall in 2007. In 2021 she had another sold-out performance at the legendary stage of Carnegie Hall. This performance was broadly covered in the media and by New York music critics. In 2007, she performed in Yamaha Hall in New York City on the concert dedicated to the jubilee of famous Azerbaijan composer GaraGarayev under the patronage of the United Nations mission of Azerbaijan in N.Y. All these events were widely reviewed in the media. In 2008, she successfully performed as a soloist with Beth El Temple Orchestra in West Hartford, Connecticut. In June of 2010, she presented her solo performance dedicated to the two hundredth Anniversary of Frederic Chopin in an all-Chopin recital. In the last few years she successfully performed as in solo concerts as well as a chamber ensemble member recitals. In 2011–12 as a member of Arrau Chamber Ensemble, she performed in series of concerts around New England.
In 2014, with collaboration with Dance department of The Hartt School she presented a premiere of Mazurkas by J.Limon in Lincoln theatre where she performed "Mazurkas" by F. Chopin. In 2015, Mammedova presented the works by New Music Composers in collaboration with two senior sopranos of The Hartt School, E.Barnes and R.Nightingale. In 2018, Ms.Mammedova had the series of performances: a concert dedicated to the Independence of Azerbaijan in Brooklyn Borough Hall, a grand concert dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of legendary Azeri composer GaraGarayev in BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center. In June 2019, she performed at the sold-out concert in Sheen Center in New York City.
Her students are the laureates of various competitions and festivals. A few of her students regularly performing with their own recitals in Carnegie Hall. Ms. Mammedova is a regular member of the judges in many International Music Competitions.
From 2002–04, she was a member of the piano faculty of the Azerbaijan Academy of Music.
At the present, Kamilla Mammedova is an Artist Teacher of Piano at Hartt School of Music at University of Hartford in Connecticut.
For her continuous performing activity as a concert pianist on main stages of USA and Azerbaijan, in November 2018 Ms. Kamilla Mammedova received An Outstanding Award of Ongoing Support and Commitment in building a Cultural Bridge between Azerbaijan and USA.
Mammedova holds graduate degrees with honors from both the Azerbaijan Academy of Music and the University of Hartford's Hartt School.
