    Canadian pianist Joan Forsyth is a multi-faceted musician who has received critical acclaim as a soloist and chamber music artist. She has been heard throughout Europe, Japan, South and North America in a wide range of repertoire, embracing the standard piano literature as well as the most recent works. She holds a Masters Degree from the Juilliard School and a DMA from Rutgers University; her studies were with Beveridge Webster, Jeaneane Dowis, Miyoko Lotto, Andre LaPlante and Susan Starr. Her prize-winning performances in the 1990 Concerts Atlantique and La Gesse competitions set in motion tours of France and Switzerland, and since that time she has maintained a lively concert schedule. She has collaborated with such ensembles as the Cassatt Quartet, the Theater Chamber Players of the Kennedy Center and CYGNUS, and appeared as soloist with the New Westminster Symphony, the Westchester Philharmonic and the Westchester Chamber Orchestra. She has toured the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Russia with CYGNUS and programs of new American music Her performances have been broadcast over WNYC, WFAS, Vermont and New York Public Radio, RAIItaly), Radio DÂenmark and Polish National Radio. "

    Ms. Forsyth also makes recital appearances with duo-partner guitarist William Anderson, most recently in Japan and Mexico and the festival of new American music in Sacramento. The two premiered and recorded Charles Wuorinen’s Sonata for Piano and Guitar, which was chosen to represent the “Art of the States” for worldwide broadcast. This was followed by a recording of the works of composer Meyer Kupferman on the Soundspells label. Other recordings have been for CRI, Albany, Bridge and Furious Artisans. This fall the Anderson/Forsyth duo performed at the Festival Internacional Camerata 21 in Xalapa, Mexico, and will be presented as part of the Ebb and Flow Arts Festival in Hawaii. The two represented America at the 2014 ISCM “Word Music Days” in Wroclaw, Poland."

    Joan Forsyth chairs the Piano Department at the Third Street Music School Settlement in New York City. She is on faculty at Bennington College, and frequently presents lectures and classes for the Sonatina School of Music in Bennington, Vermont. She has a special interest in early childhood music education and a love for teaching her many varied and accomplished students." " "
