    Andrea Saposnik, mezzo-soprano



    Andrea Saposnik, mezzo-soprano,has performed extensively in opera, oratorio, and recital. Her recent performances include Bach's Mass in B Minor with the Long Island Choral Society; Respighi's Il Tramonto at the Interharmony Music Festival, Arcidosso, Italy; Haydn's Theresienmesse and the role of Micah in Handel's Samson with the Putnam Chorale; and the role of Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto with the Downtown Symphony, Manhattan. She is a frequent soloist with the Long Island Choral Society, where she has performed the Requiems of Duruflé and Verdi, Copland's In the Beginning, Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Vivaldi's Gloria, and world premieres of works by Meredith Baker and James Cowdery; she was Artist in Residence with the LICS in 2006. Dr. Saposnik has sung in the Trinity Concerts at One series in New York, and in the Stars over Hastings benefit concert alongside members of the Tokyo and Juilliard string quartets. She has been heard as mezzo-soprano soloist at Weill Recital Hall in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, at Symphony Space in Brahms's Alto Rhapsody, and with the Queens Choral Society in Mendelssohn's Elijah. As an operatic performer, she has sung with New York City Opera educational outreach department and has performed roles including both Second and Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro. Dr. Saposnik has been a fellow at the Bach Aria Festival and at the Steans Institute of the Ravinia Festival, and has collaborated with famed Bach interpreters Ronald Roseman and Jaap Schröder. Her recordings include Handel's Messiah with Trinity Choir and Orchestra on Naxos and Elliot Goldenthal's Juan Darien on Sony. Dr. Saposnik holds a DMA in Voice Performance from CUNY Graduate Center, a MM in Voice Performance from Yale University, a BM in Voice Performance from Oberlin Conservatory, and a BA in English from Oberlin College. Dr. Saposnik has also studied contemporary commercial music vocal technique, and her students are accomplished classical, musical theater, and popular singers. She lives in Westchester County, New York and maintains a private voice studio in Hastings-on-Hudson.
